A landmark upgrade of Wattle Park's playground, trail network and oval precinct, delivered within a heritage-listed park on the Victorian Heritage Register.
The upgrade delivered a new all-abilities playscape featuring a double-storey tram fort, sensory garden, swings, spinners and slides, an upgraded 3.25km walking and running track with additional loop links formalised around the oval, and a new picnic area with shelters, barbecues and all-abilities pathways and tables.
Delivering the upgrade across a well-loved, actively used and heritage-listed park required protecting significant natural and cultural heritage values while keeping the park accessible to the community throughout construction. Work proceeded within Victorian Heritage Register controls and in partnership with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, supported by flora, fauna and arborist assessments that routed new structures around significant trees and vegetation. Full heritage and environmental compliance was achieved, with a Heritage Victoria permit secured for the works, and strong community support was maintained throughout extensive engagement.
